Thanet Earth Staff Volunteer at Monkton Nature Reserve
Monkton Nature Reserve have been one of our Community Champions for some time now, and we often work with them in terms of our biodiversity, facilitating seed swaps from our grounds to theirs and vice versa, regular produce donations to their cafe and supporting their events and sponsoring the great work they do for the community.
This April, Monkton were our Community Champion nominated by the Community Team, but with a slightly different form of support than our usual produce or financial support. Opened up to all members of staff, a team of 4 were selected to trade an afternoon of working hours for voluneteering at the reserve.
Amanda Miles, Katarzyna Kaza, Tetiana Khapun and Martina Danisova hopped over the road and undertook work around the site, cutting back overhanging vegetation on paths, filling rabbit foraging holes on paths and general cleaning of infrastructure, supported by Monkton’s Volunteer Coordinator, Laura Shale.
It was a great afternoon giving back to this wonderful nature reserve, the sun was shining and the team were in high spirits!
We plan to offer out more volunteering opportunities at local initiatives in the future for more chances to give back to our community.
