Dutch-based Rainbow Growers were some of the first to seek independence following the break up of the Dutch national auction system in the early 90's. Pioneers in development and innovation, they were the first to move to central processing and direct sales to overseas customers. A state of the art facility was constructed in 2000 and extended again in 2005.
The Rainbow Group greenhouse at Thanet Earth is 8.5 hectares in size, and is the largest single pepper greenhouse in the UK. The young pepper plants are installed in December, with the first harvest of the year coming in March. Harvest is then continual from the same set of plants until November when the greenhouse is cleared and replanted for the following season.
